Therefore, Coca-cola Taiwan Controlled Company explained that: the standard of adding preservative P-hydroxy benzoic acid methyl ester is different according to different countries and areas, this batch of primary liquid is not purchased by Taiwan, but delivered to Taiwan by mistake.

Taiwan Found 3 Kinds of Preservatives

According to report, Taiwan department of health food and drug administration found the P-hydroxy benzoic acid methyl ester in the ZERO PM raw drink ingredients from Shanghai Coca-cola Beverage Co.,Ltd., with 2.062g/Kg, but in Taiwan this additive is forbidden.

In addition, Health Bureau also found that other 2 kinds of preservative: Benzoic Acid and Hexadienoic Acid. Both of them is out of limits. Now, above batch of Cola PM is prohibited entering to Taiwan.

Low Value Nutritions in Similar Beverages

Reporters know from inquiring related materials, the international standard of each body everyday of absorbing P-hydroxy benzoic acid methyl ester is 10mg/Kg weight. For example: if weight is 60kg, then everyday intakes 600mg at least for long time, then will harm people's health.

For this, Prof.Fan Zhihong from China Agricultural University indicates that the inspection data of preservative is in the Primary Liquid, the concentration may higher, according to above absorbing amount, large over addition may won't happen.

He also shows that "P-hydroxy benzoic acid methyl ester" is kind of permitted additive in carbonated beverages which is legal in China Mainland or many other countries. And the two other kinds additive "Benzoic Acid" and "Hexadienoic Acid" are very common additives, lots of food contains them, and Benzoic Acid is the most widely used preservative,Hexadienoic Acid is approved by the state.

Response:"Safety content after diluted"

Coca-cola China Company declared that:"This preservative issue happened in Taiwan, such kind of additive is permitted and considered as safe additive in China Mainland,HongKong,USA, therefore, its widely accepted and used in food and beverage,but in Taiwan it's not allowed add into carbonated drinks."

Public affairs director of Coca-cola China Area Ms.Dimei pointed that batch of problem coke occured is used in the machine in fast food restaurant such as McDonald, but not the bottle drink that sells in the market.
